An eminent lawyer, respected politician, Member of Parliament, B.R. Nahata was born on 20th November 1946 in a small town Rampura of Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh. He was known for criminal and election law cases in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He was honored to have been among the penal of lawyers who represented Smt. Indira Gandhi for her appeal against the order of Allahabad High Court in Supreme Court.
He won successfully election petition filed on behalf of Late Takht Mal Jain, Ex-chief Minister of Madhya Bharat, and petition filed against Shri Prakash Chandra Sethi, Ex-chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh and many more.
He was a visionary, Education and Irrigation being his main areas of interest. He founded Shri Harak Chand Chordia College in Bhanpura a small town (7000 population) in 1968, and Jawaharlal Nehru Law College, Mandsaur in 1972. He took regular honorary classes in Jawaharlal Nehru Law College. He motivated kissans for water conservation and Irrigation. It is to his credit that earstwhile Mandsaur district achieved the distinction of being 100% electrified district, may be first in the country, in the year 1977. It is to his credit that district achieved the distinction of having highest number of ground wells and electric pumps.
He created many lift irrigation schemes of farmers to enable them to utilize water from Gandhi Sagar Dam for which Mandsaur district submerged about 1/3rd of its area without getting any benefit.
